'If You Can Make It There ... '
By Daniel Freedman, The New York Sun
March 10, 2006

There's nothing quite like speculating about whether America's mayor, Rudy Giuliani, will run for president. The New York Sun reported on March 7 that "Mayor Giuliani's decision to skip a high-profile showcase for potential Republican presidential candidates this weekend is drawing quizzical reactions from some strategists and fueling debate about whether he is serious about seeking the presidency in 2008."

Guliani didn't have to show up. He can carry all the red states, except the south, as it is. If he learns to eat grits and stay away from the abortion debate, he can take the south too. Frist shouldn't be a candidate for the simple fact that he is a Senator. With the exception of President Kennedy, Senators don't get elected.

Agreed---what a meaningless little show.

'Twas, indeed. If this show is the best the Republicans can come up with to assess "grassroots" support, then we're in big trouble in 2008. What a farce--complete waste of time, energy and money.

The gay rights issues as well.

I like a lot about Rudy, but he's not conservative enough to even count as a mainstream Republican (and these days, that's saying a lot) for the rest of America. He should just chill.

Gays rights are not as big of an issue in the south as people think. The issue seems to come up more in the western states, as well as New England. If he stays out of the fray and doesn't get nailed down on the issue, I think he can rise above the debate and come out of it clean.

geez, I hope he doesn't get caught cheating on his girlfriend like he did his wife. The country doesn't need to go through another Clinton like fiasco. Rudy won't be able to carry the Christian right because of his abortion views and his cheating past. he's more like a VP candidate.

How can he stay away from his positions: prochoice alone will be sink him after the opposition pushes it in his face. How will McCain fair pandering to the conservative base with moderate positions? This is not as if a Bush Senior was doing an about face to get the VP slot. This is about the P.
