In a recent podcast called the "Original Blexit" it was explained why most of us aren't Republicans today. Here is the timeline:
And they have the nerve to wonder why blacks don't vote for them.

- -1870s: Black people are Republicans because Democrats are disenfranchising black voters through poll taxes, lynchings, and literacy tests.
- 1920s/1930s - some white Republicans want to push black people out of the party. Republican president Herbert Hoover, supported by the KKK, says that he wants the Republican party to be Lily white
- 1930s - cracks in AA support of Republicans start to form because of the Great depression. Although FDR's New Deal discriminates against us, we still feel its positive effects. Meanwhile, Republicans are appealing to us through black celebrities. We feel that Republicans are taking us for granted, and that the Democrats are at least doing something.
- 1940s - 1950s the black vote is up for grabs for both parties.
- 1960s - Nixon is running against Kennedy. Jackie Robinson, a staunch Republican who is good friends with Nixon, asks him to call Dr. King in jail as a show of support. He refused, but Kennedy called Coretta, asking if there was anything she needed. MLK says that no Republican reached out to him while he was in jail. Black people come out to vote for Kennedy.
- 1960s - Democrat president Lyndon Johnson signs the civil Rights act (although he was racist).
- 1960s - the straw that broke the camel's back was when the Republican party made Goldwater it's presidential candidate against Johnson. Goldwater was opposed to the civil Rights act. Jackie Robinson forms "Black Republicans for Johnson." Only 6% of us vote for Goldwater.
- 1960s - Republicans court racist southern Democrats who, were angry about Johnson signing the civil Rights act. Obviously, the racist Southerners and AAs couldn't both have a home in the Republican party. AAs attending the RNC were verbally and physically attacked.
- 1980s - Regan cements the existing divide through dog whistling, using terms like "states rights" and being against social programs.
- 2019 - the Republican party is 90% white.
And they have the nerve to wonder why blacks don't vote for them.
