In the 50's America considered nuking the moon. Why?? To help the morale of the American citizens after the Soviets became very active in space exploration.

Kinda ironic.....they'd have played hell with the "One Small Step For Man, One Giant Leap For Mankind" bullshit.

Well, to be fair, this was before NuttyNewt said he wanted to be the governor of the Great State of Loony Luna.
 
Man, it must have been rough living with the threat of the Iron Curtain all day. When it's a sensible plan to blow up the moon, you know how terrified everyone was of the USSR.

Not really...I remember them conducting drills which included grammar school children taking cover beneath their desks. Talk about real protection from heat and radiation. More like kindling...and of course they knew it.
