WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is trumpeting a new White House estimate that his top economist calls "stunning": His stimulus plan has already created or saved up to 2 million jobs.

The analysis is part of the administration's quarterly report to Congress on the controversial $787 billion package of spending and tax cuts he signed weeks after taking office.

Obama planned to highlight the report Wednesday during a visit to a Lanham, Md., training center for union electricians that specializes in "green" technology.

Republicans have denounced the stimulus plan as an expensive flop,

An "estimate" is like that old saying about opinions and assholes. Everyone has one.

It doesn't have to be accurate.

Jeez, President Obama orders his assistant to "estimate" that the stimulus plan created "up to" 2 million jobs and we're supposed to a) believe that it is true and b) fall down on our knees and worship President Obama?

Bah!!

Oh by the way, I estimate that the Ravens will beat the Colts this weekend by "at least" seven points.

Of course, no one knows what business ideas will work before an entrepreneur tries them. Google might not have succeeded. Remember Pets.com? The economy works through decentralized trial and error as millions of entrepreneurs try to make their ideas work.

During this recession, however, this entrepreneurial activity has slowed. Job creation has fallen by 25 percent since the recession began, much more than the 15 percent increase in job losses. The credit crunch and the uncertainty of the recession have made starting new businesses less rewarding and more difficult. Unemployment has doubled primarily because fewer entrepreneurs now take the risk of putting their ideas into action.

That's why Mr. Obama can't create jobs. What politician could come up with even 20 good business ideas, much less the tens of thousands needed to get millions of Americans back to work? No one person has that expertise.

The president can help create a business environment that encourages entrepreneurship. Or he can create an environment that discourages it. Unfortunately Mr. Obama has chosen the latter path.

Many long-standing liberal policy goals make businesses less profitable. Rather than holding off on this agenda until the economy recovers, however, Mr. Obama and congressional Democrats have pressed full speed ahead. They have chosen to advance their ideological goals at the expense of entrepreneurship and job creation.

Politicians should be required to take the Hippocratic Oath.

...First do no harm.

Too simple, besides that has always worked in the past, these are new clowns with new/old fresh ideas. They have to experience failure before they can reinvent what works.
