US: "elections with 90% turnout are “illegitimate” but 45% turnout legitimate"

As you may know, people in Ukraine as in much of the rest of the world are tired of Oligarchs. US administration called elections in Donetsk and Slavyansk which had about 90% voter turn out ILLEGITIMATE, but elections of May 25th, where only 45% of people turned out to vote after all the riots and mass demonstrations to be legitimate

Today it was on breaking news CNN that a billionaire won Ukrainian elections recognized by US, but that was not the case when people wanted independence from these oligarchs and 90% of people turned out to vote:

So what is democracy?

I also fail to understand how can it be that in a live conference, in which the questions are not pre determined in advance that she needs to read from the notebook the answers?

So what is democracy?

Read up about the ancient Greeks.

We don't have the answer since the US is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy.

What is Democracy?
In the United States, democracy is a component of our republican form of government, the mechanism through which the people elect their representatives.

The genius of the Founding Generation was to realize the inherent danger of democracy, where although it is desirable to allow the people to express themselves in the governmental venue, unchecked democracy can result in the tyranny of the majority, where citizens’ civil liberties are jeopardized by the ignorance, hate, and fear that often manifest in the heat generated by the controversies and conflicts of the day.

This is why the American people are subject solely to the rule of law, not men; as men are incapable of ruling justly – recent state measures seeking to deny women their privacy rights, same-sex couples their equal protection rights, and minorities their voting rights are evidence of that.

The current turmoil in Ukraine, for example, is fundamentally the consequence of democracy unchecked by the rule of law.

Democracy is a quality and an activity that must be valued by the government for a people to be free. Without it we are nothing special, just another plutocracy trying to slide towards serfdom.

Democracy is a lot of things. Mostly its the richest of the rich buying a candidate and then having that candidate do their bidding once in office. What is isn't is representing the people. Democracy is a joke.

Wow.

Democracy means the Majority Wins.
It does NOT mean the Majority Legislate.
We elect Representatives, as best we can, utilizing the Democratic method of each eligible voter having a vote in who gets to REPRESENT us.
