    Well, yes, it would, actually. Instead of saying hypothetically, the proponent of a theory would instead say, 'just suppose that in this situation there was no consequence or repercussion' before proposing an idea or theory for examination.

    Oh, and if there were no such thing hypothetical, a sizable chunk of online discussions would halt or be prevented.
