What if Lincoln had not decided to invade the South?

In case you missed it, this is not the Politics Forum. For those of you who are unable to discuss historical scenarios, please go there.

It is a myth that slavery was a dying institution. The Confederacy was created to ensure it continued to exist forever.

Oh, heavens. Is there no PC syrup myth that you don't swallow? The number of slaveholders had dropped by 5% in the 10 years between 1850 and 1860. Slavery was absolutely not only dying but dead in the territories--there were fewer than 200 slaves in all the western territories, and nobody but nobody believed there was any chance that any territory was going to enter the Union as a slave state.

As for the Confederacy, its constitution allowed for the admission of free states, and it also banned the slave trade.

Cotton needed to be picked and an automated cotton picker did not come around till the 1930s and we know plantation owners didn’t want to pay to have their cotton picked.

If Lincoln had ignored them, they would have turned into a red neck third world nation similar to South Africa

Ughh. . . . . Behold another product of the brainwashing of our public education system.

Just FYI, when the Confederacy was formed, there were more Union slave states than there were Confederate slave states. The four Upper South states *rejected* secession over slavery; they only joined when Lincoln announced he would invade the South after Fort Sumter.

LOL

Number of slaveholders dropped?
But the number of slaves increased to four million

It was not dying

The slave trade had been banned since 1808. The south did not need to import slaves...they bred their own

I'm going to test this theory out ... I'll be back ... right now..

Lincoln should not be remembered as a good person, the south didn’t want slavery DEMOCRATS WANTED SLAVERY!.

There was absolutely no need for this war it would have settled down after a few years and would have rejoined

Slavery existed in the south 200 years before the Democratic Party was formed

That's a silly dodge. Surely you are not going to deny that the Democratic Party was the avowed, strident, proud pro-slavery party in the country until slavery was abolished, are you? And, after Reconstruction ended in 1876, gee, which party was it that imposed Jim Crow laws in the South? It starts with a D.

We'd have yet another poor ass country with its people trying to sneak across our Southern border for a better life.

Again, slavery was a “curious institution” of the south
It existed for 200 years before the formation of the Democratic or Republican Parties

Jim Crow was an extension of that curious institution and was supported by both parties. Nobody, from either party, could get elected Dog Catcher in the south if they did not support Jim Crow

The Democrats held their noses and tolerated the racist southern Democrats

Now it is the RepubliKlans who tolerate them

A country cannot invade itself. Federal troops maneuvered on American soil to put down a rebellion.

So why are democrats in charge of the urban slave plantations?
