I've looked at sites that specialize in:

    Closed end funds

    REITs

    MLPs

    Revenue Trusts

    Preferred shares

Monthly as opposed to QTR dividends

    ETFs

What other forms of liquid investment are there?

I keep some of my money in 13-week T-bills. They only pay about 2.4% but that's better than stuffing it into the mattress. They are fairly liquid; you get your money back in 91 days.

The stock market has been fairly dull lately; I haven't bought or sold anything for several weeks.

Consider the amount you're likely to invest I'd suggest a plastic piggy bank with a little water dumped through the slot.
