I've been wondering since Correction Officers are paid $50,000+ starting salary (and they get benefits on top of it) and advance their salary to over $100,000, where is all this money coming from? What are they producing?

The United States has the highest incarceration rate of ALL nations, more than 1 in 97 people live behind bars, the overwhelming majority of which were convicted (without a jury, because they were frightened into a plea deal) for VICTIMLESS crimes (lacking the corpus delicti).

Then it occurred to me, the state pays them, via our taxes (theft). What is the state paying them for, what are they producing? The Police State. That is their product.

Must we really spends billions of dollars per year to imprison millions of people caught with a few ounces of pot? We don't need more prisons and correction officers, we need to repeal dumb laws and demolish prisons and tell the correction officers (and many of the police) to go out in the world and PRODUCE something valuable to society.
