The time we ourselves exist is always going to be the best time. And comparisons to the past are only possible with the position of existing in the 'future.' If all we knew was the present, whether relative to now past or current, we'd simplyadapt and make due. Your arguement of 'it was more difficult in the past' then doesn't work because we can only make that comparison because we exist now in the 'future-present.' The same logic could be levelled saying that in a hundred or so years things will be even easier than they are now and so we now have it tough by that comparison.
