The Wendigo is a demonic half-beast creature appearing in the legends of the Algonquian peoples along the Atlantic Coast and Great Lakes Region of both the United States and Canada. The creature or spirit could either possess characteristics of a human or a monster that had physically transformed from a person. It is particularly associated with cannibalism (source: Wikipedia).

While the term 'wendigo' can be applied liberally by anthropologists to discuss various cases of human groups ritually practicing cannibalism, it can more specifically be used to discuss cases in which the ingestion of human flesh is somehow related to behavioral frenzy.

This is why cannibalism has been used by poets in the modern era to chatter about today's consumerism avarice culture (i.e., Burger King).
