PHOENIX - The Obama administration is having second thoughts about withdrawing all National Guard troops from the border by the end of June.

The National Guard Bureau in Virginia is asking Arizona officials for input on "different courses of action" for what to do about the 560 soldiers now assigned to border-security duty in Arizona, part of 1,200 troops placed along the entire Mexican border. Lt. Valentine Castillo of the Arizona National Guard said Tuesday that one of those options is to extend the mission.

And Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, in an interview with Reuters, said the administration is weighing whether to keep troops there to tamp down border violence.

"They have proven to be very, very useful at the border," the former Arizona governor said. "They have helped in a number of drug seizures, among other things."

But Napolitano said there has been no "final decision about whether and at what strength to leave the Guard at the border."

A decision is needed soon

It's a lot easier bailing out the 'water' after you plug up the hole... Unfortunately they could throw in another 12,000 troops to try and seal the border and it wouldn't help that much. The only way we're going to alleviate this illegal immigration problem is to attack the cause.

this isn't a job for the guard. if more bodies are needed there, if those 1200 are that helpful we need to find a way to recruit and hire 1200 more specially trained border agents. the national guard is stretched thin enough as it is.

What the hell does WW2 have to do with the topic at hand!?!? As a matter of fact, you realize we(the U.S.) didn't want to get involved in that war, right? Hell, even after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, we only declared war on Japan... It was Hitler that declared war on us a few days later, which was more than likely due to the Lend-Lease act.

Now back to the topic, the only way we're going to stem the flow of illegals jumping our border and give reason for those illegally here is to take care of Mexico's problems for them because they apparently can't handle it themselves... I mean why is it we stick our noses in the business of countries half a world away but ignore whats going on South of us?

What do you suggest? It's too late to show them how to use condoms.

Their problem is they are a backward third world country that insist on multiplying, and multiplying and see this as a good thing that generations before did to survive when the average Mexican lived to 35.

If they were surrounded by water and could get no help from other countries, their population would be dying out of disease and starvation.

I don't think the birthrate of Latinos is the major problem with them flooding our nation. We need to get rid of all the politicians that are ignoring this problem South of our Border(damn near impossible since a majority of U.S. citizens are more concerned with who gets voted off on Dancing with the Stars than who's destroying this country), abolish NAFTA for Canada is the only ones reaping the benefits from it(Obama was initially considering that until Canada started bitching about it, damn Pansy), declare war on the Cartels as we have done with other terrorist organizations(we'll see how long those fuckers last when they're dealing with a real military), start fining sanctuary cities since they are the ones breaking the law(a pipe dream), set a large fee for wire transfers that are leaving this country(I mean hell, in 2009 over $21 billion was transfered to Mexico), and last but certainly not least start enforcing the laws that are already on the books for illegal immigration(talking to you ICE).

I agree. But we still gotta stop them from multiply. That is what scares most politicians. Losing those votes.
