Germany has the potential to produce its own natural gas by the process called Hydraulic Fracturing. It is well-known technology, the equipment to do it is easy to obtain, and the benefits are close to infinite. To illustrate, the U.S. has sufficient proven gas reserves sufficient to meet our current needs for hundreds of years. And Germany's reserves are comparable.

But Germany is hindered by a cadre of "environmentalist" extremists who will do whatever is necessary, politically, financially, and even through terrorist acts to thwart any attempt to produce energy with fossil fuels. And apparently, any German leaders with balls were preemptively killed in the womb as a result of the losses of WWII and beyond.

Nuclear energy is another possible avenue of relief. Germany has NEVER HAD ANY incident at a commercial nuclear power facility that killed or seriously injured either a worker or anyone outside the plant. And yet they are more than reluctant to pursue this avenue with any enthusiasm because of its inherent "dangers."

I love Germany. I've visited many times and in many ways I feel completely at home there. I share a lot of their neuroses about punctuality, cleanliness, orderliness, and so on.

But this is an entirely preventable, self-imposed crisis. One can only hope that they get their figurative head out of their ass before the people are made to suffer much longer.

Obviously like in the UK and other European countries the Governments will need to step in and deal with this. They don't want people dying of hypothermia or half the country bankrupt. There is already talk of trying not to use unnecessary energy but no one is going to be freezing to death.

Nord Stream 2 never opened and Germany has learned that Russian gas is not cheap at all since it made Germany an accomplish to Putin's imperialist invasion of Ukraine. Germany's goal now is to close Nord Stream 1 permanently.
