The fact remains that, for example, as the Sahara desert grows, hundred of thousands of people will try to migrate to where life can be supported and if anyone tries to stop such migration, wars erupt. We should remember that the civil war that is currently raging in Syria was ALSO prompted by their drought situation.

Every organization that has a budget must make the case to justify that budget. That's not a communist conspiracy. That's just how budgets work. When it comes time for your city's fire department to have its budget reviewed, are they ever going to admit that their budget could be responsibly downsized? Never. They're going to say that if you close Station 9, lives will be lost. Millions in property damage will happen. Because they have an economic insensitive to portray a disaster scenario doesn't mean that they are wrong. But it's easy to understand that they are going to focus on possible risks every time.

It's not a conspiracy theory to point that out. Every organization with a budget is also a lobby group, full stop. Without the disaster scenario, there is much less justification for funding. Climate science becomes an intellectual endeavor rather than an essential tool to save us from destruction.

Where do people get this idea that somehow scientists are above human nature? Like everyone, scientists are concerned with job security and they get tribal against colleagues who threaten job security. Beyond that, scientists are prideful, they have egos, they're susceptible to confirmation bias, and they're heavily invested in their published work which they will defend against alternative theories until it's completely obvious that they're wrong.

AGW is a cash cow. It's a meal ticket. Whichever side you come down on, you have to realize that. Even the Pentagon has joined the party. In their budget request for fiscal year 2015, they requested money to combat the destabilizing political effects of climate change.
