if he fails to get the Republican nomination.
    just reported according to FNC

Shades of Ross Perot, both "loose cannons with bad haircuts"
It's a cinch he won't get the Republican nomination.

Hmmmm....I wonder how bad the GOP will be hurt by losing their "birther" base?

Will that hurt the GOP or the Dems more?

He appeals to those who are persuaded by sound-bites. His policy statements are mostly empty rhetoric. Whether it be "birfers" or just those who are impressed by showmanship, he will split the vote of those who prefer anyone but Obama.

He might, if it didn't cost him anything.

That would be bad for the Republicans.

Let's say he does run as an Independent. He will be taking time and notice away from serious candidates. But let's look further... he has the money to buy the best advisors and camp[aign specialists money can buy if they want to go with Trump. And if Trump listens to his advisors and behaves as they tell him, perhaps he would be an apt candidate.

And about the birther issue...I do believe there are more Americans who wonder about it that would rather push it aside. Not sure if they want to open the can of worms, but they wonder.

I personally would say, open the can of worms and I don't think Trump could follow the advice of any advisor. He's been his own man for far too long to listen to others.

I believe it would hurt the GOP more. Whether one agrees or disagrees with Trump, he does have an uncanny ability to get to the point. And that alone makes him appealing, as many Americans are tired of talk alot and say very little and do even less politicians. He could end up being the best thing that happens to the Dems in the runup to 2012 if he runs as an independent.

it will peel off enough of the repub base to torpedo any shot they have.

i still think he's not going to run. the GOP will give him something for not running as an indie.

GOP. He would take a large share of the anti-incumbent vote that would otherwise go Republican.
