Donald Trump spent the day before his historic appearance in federal court scrambling to find a qualified Florida lawyer willing to join his defense team as he faces the Justice Department’s first prosecution of a former president.

After touching down in Miami on Monday, Trump spent the afternoon interviewing prospective lawyers and meeting with his legal team, along with other top advisers, to discuss the case, in which he is accused of mishandling classified documents and obstructing the government’s efforts to retrieve them, according to people familiar with the sessions.

Several prominent Florida attorneys declined to take Trump on as a client after two of the key lawyers handling the documents matter — Jim Trusty and John Rowley — resigned last week, according to people familiar with the matter.

Trusty and Rowley’s departure was sudden and unexpected, leaving Trump jockeying to identify a lawyer ahead of his Tuesday appearance in federal court in Miami, where rules require practicing attorneys to be a member in good standing of the Florida bar or to be sponsored by one before appearing. Kise led the search for a lawyer and cast a seemingly wide net in the state. He declined to comment.

The 11th-hour flurry of action to hire a seasoned trial attorney was a familiar dance for Trump, who has had difficulty hiring and keeping lawyers over the course of numerous federal and state investigations since his 2016 election as president.

And didn't Trump almost get his lawyers in trouble? He told them he turned all the documents over. They told the government he did. He did not. The law found out he lied. So they went after his lawyers and said "either you lied to us or Trump lied. Which is it?"

They didn't want to go to jail for Trump like Michael Cohen, another one of his FORMER lawyers.

Can you blame lawyers for not wanting to represent Trump?

I just think this is so fucking hilarious that Trump and his cohorts said Lock Her UP over Hillary using private emails to do official business. Something Trump did too. But it's hilarious that after they made such a big deal out of what Hillary did and Trump of course is 100X worse than Hillary. But now they want to give Trump a pass on all his crimes???

Trump really should spend time in prison. At least 2 years. That way he misses the 2024 elections.

When will the case start? It should happen around October but Trump will try his best to delay it until after the election so he can pardon himself.

He wll need a wealthy retired to semi-retired lawyer, preferably from a military family who knows his law and cares greatly about fair and equal justice. Money can't be his motive, only principle. This means Trump will have to avoid recommendations, Ivey league stars and search instead based on those particular qualities. Grab a team of hard workers from less prestigious universities but who can debate with the best of them.

According to Marco Rubio, Jack Teixeira is innocent because no harm came from his actions.

The FBI on Thursday arrested Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, in connection with the major leak of dozens of pages of classified Pentagon documents, many of which were photos of slides developed by the Joint Staff to brief senior leaders about the situation in Ukraine.

“There’s no allegation that there was harm done to the national security,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Monday in an interview on CBS. “There’s no allegation that he sold it to a foreign power or that it was trafficked to somebody else or that anybody got access to it.”

In 2016, Rubio said Clinton’s private email server made classified information “vulnerable to theft and exploitation by America’s enemies.” He said Clinton’s actions were “grossly negligent, damaged national security and put lives at risk.”
