I was digging around the gun room and found this single-shot Hamilton #27 Boy's Rifle I forgot I had. They started making them in 1906 and production ended sometime during the great depression. They were chambered in .22 short and long.

The barrel is only 15" but it was excluded from the NFA prohibitions.

Kids would sell seed packets and the rifle was given as a prize. They were also given away at random in large bags of seed corn.

My example has a brass bore but it still shoots fine with shorts. Later examples used a steel liner.

Thanks, I always enjoy your posts about weaponry.

When I was twelve years old I bought my first firearm, a Stevens 20 gauge single shot shotgun. I saved up paper route earnings to buy it. I paid $20.00 for the shotgun and three boxes of shells. It was a good general purpose hunting gun. I would still have it except that it along with my other long guns were stolen in a major 1982 home burglary.
