You might think we all pay the same for food, but I think there is some disparity in that assumption. This thread is to list common grocery items and the prices you paid in what state. So save your register reciepts and let us know here. Any grocery item at all.

I have seen times when vegetables are higher a pound than meat. How can that be? Why does one brand of cheese cost ten times higher than another labeled brand?

I will start:

California

Bar-S Hot Links in package 3.48
Hi-Top Spinach in frozen box .67
Post Grape Nuts in small box 2.44
Stagg's Chilli Beans in can 1.48
Diet Cranberry Juice in jug 1.88
Pepper Jack Cheese package 4.49
Best Foods Mayo in jar 6.96
Lime Juice in bottle 5.94
Milk (lactaid) carton 4.53
Minute Rice jumbo box 6.98
El Pato Hot Sauce canned .96
Columbo French bread loaf 1.98
Brown Sugar boxed 1.68
Black Grapes 5.79
Romaine lettuce 3 in pax 2.89
Avacados (5) 5.49
Ex large eggs 24 2.49

1 Fla Nat. Grapefruit Juice 1/2 gal. $3.67

If America were a Monopoly board, California and New York would be like Park Place and Boardwalk.

So naturally, everything costs more in the high rent district.

Do we note 'sale prices'? ;) I don't buy things not on sale. Also should note if a 'major chain' grocer or Tarjay, Walmart, other discount...

BTW Gas here: $3.29

Oranges are free here. They do grow on trees.
Gas is $3.09 for regular for my truck, but the bike needs $3.45 high test.
Milk is $2.99 at one chain and $3.49 at another. Porter House goes for 12 bucks
