The Day the Music Died!

Valens song "Donna" was the first music that I really liked. Released in 1958 I had just finished rebuilding an RCA tube radio I salvaged from the trash. At 9 years old I was really proud of myself. My parents were into Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Perry Como. We had one of those huge entertainment centers with the TV and record player in one very large cabinet in the living room and us kids were not allowed to touch the controls. So I turned the dial on my new radio's maiden voyage and there was Richie on radio KJR AM 950 and my world changed forever. I was almost in a coma at hearing of Valens demise.

Buddy Holly's Still-Living Legacy

I grew up in the '50's...Buddy Holly was so far ahead of his time...

It is also amazing to me that the single microphone recordings of those early 'hi-fi' days sound cleaner and more real than the modern compressed recordings...

I loved this John Mellencamp song the first time I heard it. He used the old single microphone recording techniques...

Check it out...
