The Conservative Victimhood Complex Has Made America Impossible To Govern

Trump's appalling failure is only the most visible part of a vast ocean of right-wing dysfunction. For conservative zealots and media figures, the pandemic is quickly becoming just another culture war battleground — an axis of postmodern symbolic conflict, another vent for bottomless grievance, and fuel for a screeching victimhood complex. The practical effect will be to fuel infection and hamstring economic recovery. It's a stark obstacle before fixing this or any other crisis.

Nothing gets their blood flowing like playing martyr before imaginary liberal tyranny. Casting oneself as Anne Frank for having to wear a two-dollar cloth mask at Walmart during the worst pandemic in a century would be a stretch for most people in the world, but not American movement conservatives.

I prefer poutrage industry, but hysteria industrial complex works equally as well.

Nope. What this virus has done is invaluable. It has exposed and shown how deeply embedded the tyrannical tin pot governors, state level, local officials are ingrained in the US. Make no mistake, these tyrannical authoritarians hate this country and the people to the core.

Trump is the Victim In Chief. This then allows the Trumpsters to defend his childish behavior as "fighting back".

They clearly think that behaving like a spoiled, petulant child is the one and only way to fight back.

Trumpism, 2020. We'll get past this.
Childish behavior?
When did this happen?

Obviously you haven't noticed. He's at your level, cool!
Your criticisms seem to be highly selective.
We see Democrats acting like petulant children daily....yet Trump is the one acting childish.

Imaginary, indeed.

The right’s ridiculous lie that the necessary, proper, and Constitutional health and safety guidelines somehow manifest as ‘tyranny’ or ‘violate’ citizens’ rights is yet another example of how dishonest most conservatives are, and how baseless their victimhood complex truly is.

You're posting individual actions by individual people in individual situations in an effort to justify the constant, daily behaviors of one person.

Maybe in your mind such a feeble argument is effective. It isn't, but you're certainly free to keep trying. That's the pathology, I get it. Protect Trump, drop all standards for Trump.

Did you just compare an actor in a comedy skit to the president of the united states?

Goddamn that is stupid.

Yes....focus on one person and ignore the rants of his critics.

Yes, correct. I focus on his behaviors and (far more importantly) the enabling behaviors of his sycophants.

Conservatives being referred to as ‘victim’ from the side that created “safe spaces” and cries “racism” every time they don’t get their way is comical.

I agree -- this victimhood complex is so pathetic.

A lot of these people are secretly scared about the virus, but they are more scared about losing their "right" to infect others. Good luck getting these people to submit to a vaccine, even the ones that believe in vaccines!

Actually, it does mean what he thinks it means. Someone who, in a cowardly, ass-kissing manner, mindlessly submits to false authority. Closely related to a useful idiot.

Mac1958 is, once again, engaging in projection, falsely accusing his adversaries of that of which he, himself is guilty.

And, in an impressive display of Orwellian Doublethink, he's demanding that we act like sycophants and then condemning us as “sycophants” for refusing to do so.

With rights come responsibilities. Responsibilities to our community and our nation. When there is a crisis and the community needs help, it is our responsibility as citizens to grab an oar and row with the rest of the team. It is the only way a nation survives: the cooperation of the citizens, especially in times of crisis.

In a DEMOCRACY, we take it on the chin if our "side" loses and WE WAIT FOR THE NEXT ELECTION to seat someone who thinks more like we do. We can bitch and grumble all we want, but we respect the election process and follow the law in the meantime and IF WE DON'T LIKE IT WE TRY TO CHANGE IT THE LEGAL WAY. That is why so many new democracies in places like South America and Africa continue to have an ongoing shit show. The losers have no patience, no willingness to work within the process if they lose. It creates chaos and violence. No one wins.

Obama's only "crime" was allowing the FBI to investigate Russian interference and possible collusion with the candidate they favored. He was protecting the country. Trump has not got a leg to stand on. He and his supporters are the ones turning this country into a third world shithole, insisting their crazy conspiracy theories be investigated over and over in hopes of putting the opposition in prison.

We've been at this democracy thing for 240 years, more or less. What is your excuse for not getting it yet?

Suppose President Trump were to order federal agents to investigate Red Chinese and Iranian interference, and possible collusion with the Biden Campaign? Would that be right, for Trump to have FISA warrants issued for Sleepy Joe operatives?

The FBI had good reason to look at the Trump campaign. THEY DID NOT FIND ANY COLLUSION. So what is the problem?

there is good reason to look at the Sleepy Joe campaign as well. Red China and Iran really want him to win. They are all-in for Bite Me. If Biden isn't colluding, he shouldn't have a problem with Trump spying on him as well.

Left wingers would attempt to shame anyone who didn't get in the car.

The right wants you to succeed, the left wants you to obey.

Reminds me of a distantly-remembered quote. I think it was Ronald Reagan who said it, something to the effect that the Democrats measure success by government “helping” people, while Republicans measure success by people not needing any “help” from government.

You're supposed to take your government health care, food stamps, and be grateful for whatever is left after the cow fart studies. I'm so glad the left cares.
