The Civility Police: Off-Duty

To amplify AP’s point about the Left’s selective “new tone” charade, here’s DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz blithely insinuating that the Tea Party’s “lack of civility” created a climate of violence that led to the Giffords shooting:

“I have noticed it take a very precipitous turn towards edginess and lack of civility with the growth of the Tea Party movement…You had town hall meetings that [the Tea Party] tried to take over, and you saw some their conduct at those town hall meetings,” Wasserman Schultz said today. “When they come and disagree with you, you’re not just wrong, you’re the enemy.”

DWS served up these deep thoughts back in January, in response to a question about the Tucson massacre; lest there be any ambiguity, she sounded the civility alarm “particularly in light of” the shootings. Her slanderous concern trolling was risible at the time, er, particularly in light of Democrats’ rhetoric during the debt ceiling debate, but her message dredged up a well-worn and entirely baseless narrative:

Conservative speech —> ??? —> Pyschotic person shoots people

This phony logic spawned countless columns and brow-furrowed televised commentaries from liberals, who were eager to bully their political opponents into piping down — in the interest of public safety, of course . Fast forward to today, which witnessed an elected Michigan Democrat openly promising bloodshed during an irate floor speech, as noted earlier in the headlines. Michigan Democrats’ official twitter feed publicly advanced his call to violence (the tweet was later hastily deleted). Within hours of this diatribe, a conservative group’s tent was slashed up and torn to the ground as punches were thrown:
