    Deflation at the dinner table

Usually it isn't the best of signs when there is deflation even in the cost of food.

Food prices are showing greater volatility. Deflation become mere 'happy spells', with prices ratcheting up as cheap food becomes a thing of the past. I don't want to sound too Malthusian, but expect miserable times

I am an alcoholic, I really don't need food.

Maybe a cup of noodles tenderised by whiskey every now and then?

The economic climate right now is DE-flationary.

Naturally the price of food is going down in this climate

America still grows most of its own food, after all.

You can't understand food prices by restricting the analysis to macroeconomic deflationary concerns. We have to take into account international demand (generating greater volatility) plus specific 'noise' (such as variable biofuel price shocks)
