"We should remember that extremism threatens all humanity. It is a scourge that can strike anywhere and at any time using rudimentary means," El Khayam told Swiss newspapers "Tribune de Genève" and "24 heures".
"Without reinforced cooperation among all intelligence services, we cannot defeat it," said BCIJ director in this interview on the investigation over the murder of two Scandinavian tourists in Imlil commune and the arrest of suspects involved in this double homicide, including a Swiss-Spanish national.
Regarding cooperation between Morocco and Switzerland in counterterrorism fight, he noted that "our intelligence services do cooperate, but in the light of what has just happened, we must further strengthen our relations."
He recalled that Morocco has led, since the 2003 Casablanca bombings, a very effective counterterrorism policy which helped not only in dismantling many cells in the Kingdom, but also in preventing attacks in France, Belgium, Denmark and several other countries.
Regarding the arrest of a Swiss national over suspicion of involvement in the murder of the two Scandinavian students in Morocco, he said that this individual participated in several secret meetings with members of the dismantled structure.
He is not directly involved in the assassination of the two students, but he knew the perpetrators. Together, they watched ISIS movies. He was in contact with an ISIS operative in Syria via Telegram messaging. This man, whom he met in Switzerland, showed him videos of beheading, El Khayam added.

The guy had been living in Morocco since 2015. This is the first time that I have read that he was not directly involved.
