Probably 2 or 3 that don't stink.
And those wouldnt get any mention in 1939.
Some kind of reference or link would greatly enhance the participation factor in this thread.
Thanking you in advance...
One of the ten best pics nominees in 2011 is True Grit - a remake of a mediocre 1969 film where John Wayne got A LIFE ACHIEVEMENT BEST ACTOR OSCAR.
True Grit was unremarkable. A glorified Disney flick.
I watched the Oscars when they were hosted by Bob Hope.
Then after that by Johnny Carson.
Since then - been hosted by nobodies/no-talents and crud movies
John Wayne was the worst actor ever.
The 2010/2011 version of True Grit was superb.
A very very good movie. Definitely an Oscar contender.
The young actress, Hailee Steinfeld is an intelligent, charming young lady. She did her role proud. She's a likely winner at the Academy Awards. First in her ROLE:
Next, in her real life (ok, maybe a little more glamorous than her every day real life):
Also, The King's Speech is a damn fine flick. Another worthy contender.
The Fighter was great.
every bit .
The King's Speech should win. Colin Firth will get best actor.
TCM is showing 31 Days of Oscars.
incl Bridge on The River Kwai - punks any of the nominees today.
A Great Motion Picture
