"Homs, SANA- Tomorrow at 12 PM, Homs Clock will tick again turning a page on sorrows and declaring the return of all aspects of life to the neighborhoods of the city and the return of its locals to rebuild what has been destroyed at the hands of the Takfiri terrorists.
On May 9th in 2014, Homs Old City was declared a city free of terrorist organizations thanks to the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army, while the authorities in the city started the works of lifting the rubbles and rehabilitating the infrastructure.
On Sunday, Homs city will mark the 1st anniversary of expelling terrorists and restoring peace and security to its neighborhoods as its residents will celebrate this day which was the fruit of their steadfastness and their standing by the Army in the face of terrorism.
Today more than 20 percent of the displaced people have returned to their neighborhoods in Homs Old City and 60 percent of the services in the domain of water and electricity have been rehabilitated while the execution rate of the sewage system has reached 100 percent.
The considerable execution rate in the aforementioned spheres came as a result of the relentless efforts exerted by the public institutions and companies to provide the basic services to the citizens who returned to the city and to provide the suitable circumstances for the displaced to return, Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi said.
Al-Barazi told SANA that with the beginning of the current school year, five schools returned to work in Homs Old City and today four others are being rehabilitated to return to work in the beginning of the next academic year.
He added that on Sunday, Homs clock will return to tick again and its ticking will be “A symbol reflecting that the city is beating with life again.”
Over the short coming period, Homs will witness an important step on the road of finding a peaceful solution and restoring peace to all the neighborhoods of the city and there is a significant progress in the domain of restoring peace to al-Waer neighborhood, al-Barazi said.
“Syria is rising up again through Homs province as the people of Homs are an example to follow in the winning of life’s will, despite of all ordeals,” al-Barazi said.
Since terrorists got out of the city, the cadres of the City Council reopened the main streets and lifted 330,000 cubic meters of rubbles and the Council has signed contracts with five companies to lift 125 cubic meters of rubbles, Chairman of the Council Nazem Tayyara said, hailing the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army who restored peace to the city.
Maintenance workshops affiliated to Homs Water Company have also fixed about 125 lines of the main water network in the city with a total cost of nearly SYP 12.5 million.
Director of the General Electricity Company Musleh al-Hassan said that 35 electricity conversion centers were put into service in the neighborhoods of Bab al-Siba’a, al-Hamidyia, Boustan al-Diwan, Bab Howd, al-Dablan, and Souk al-Na’aoura covering 99 percent of the citizens’ need in these neighborhoods.
Al-Hassan added that with regard to the low voltage networks, power supply has been guaranteed for 70 percent of the neighborhoods of al-Hamidyia, Boustan al-Diwan, Bab Siba’a and al-Dablan and to more than 99 percent of the citizens who returned to their neighborhoods.
In the telecommunication sector, 90 percent of the phone lines of the locals who returned to the city were put into service again through extending new lines and cables.
All the main lines of the sewage system in Homs Old City have been also rehabilitated since terrorists were expelled. The length of those lines reached 450 km out of 1400 km.
With regard to the trade movement in the city, Chairman of the Board of Homs Chamber of Commerce Abdul-Naser Sheikh Fattouh said that the headquarters of the Chamber has been rehabilitated and the Chamber resumed its work after just two months.
Sheikh Fattouh indicated that “3000 merchants have returned to the city over the last period,” indicating that the Chamber seeks to organize a shopping month in Homs Old City during the holy month of Ramadan."
