Seems that Steven Mnuchin is still pretty blind to how things look to the rest of the country, even after his little trip to Ft. Knox to check on the gold stored there (he actually went to see the eclipse), he now has done another bone headed move.

Seems that he had requested through official channels to get a government jet so he could use it while he was on his honeymoon. The justification for that? He said he needed a government jet that had secure communications while he was on his honeymoon because he's part of the National Security team.

That is total b.s. Is he gonna stay in the jet the whole time he's on his honeymoon? No, he's gonna be busy on vacation with his new wife. If he needs to contact DC and talk over secure communications, all he has to do is go to the nearest embassy and they have secure comms there he can use.

And this idiot is supposed to be the Treasury Secretary. He sure isn't doing very much to save the taxpayer's money. He later canceled the request after he was told that there are other ways of keeping in touch.

Treasury chief Steven Mnuchin asked for a government jet for his honeymoon

Steven Mnuchin, the US treasury secretary, requested the use of a government jet for his European honeymoon, it was reported on Wednesday.

The treasury department’s inspector general is investigating Mnuchin’s request for a US air force plane – with a reported operating cost of around $25,000 per hour – to transport him and his wife, Louise Linton, on their honeymoon to Scotland, France and Italy this summer, according to ABC News.

Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump and several cabinet members attended Mnuchin’s wedding to British actor Linton in Washington in June.

A spokesman for the treasury told ABC that Mnuchin, 54, a former Goldman Sachs banker, sought the military jet to ensure he had a secure line of communication but aborted the request after it became clear there were other ways to maintain contact.

If he went to see the eclipse, he went to the wrong Fort. The eclipse was total at Fort Campbell, not at Fort Knox.

From my link to the Guardian....................

Mnuchin is already facing an inquiry from his department’s inspector general after he and his wife traveled to Fort Knox, Kentucky, at the time of the solar eclipse on 21 August. Counsel Rich Delmar said at the time: “We are reviewing the circumstances of the secretary’s 21 August flight … to determine whether all applicable travel, ethics, and appropriation laws and policies were observed.”

Mnuchin’s office insisted that he was there to attend meetings on tax reform rather than watch the eclipse. The treasury said the couple would reimburse the government for Linton’s travel costs.

If the trip was actually official, then why did he pay back the government? And, in some of the pictures that he's in, it shows him standing next to someone who is holding eclipse glasses. Hey, maybe he was stupid enough to pick the wrong place to view it.

Here's a link that reports Mnuchin was viewing the eclipse, just short of totality, from the roof of Ft. Knox.

Mnuchin, wife, viewed eclipse from roof of Fort Knox

It turns out that Mnuchin did view the eclipse while he was in Kentucky, and from an extraordinary place: Just outside the path of totality, from the roof of the nation’s fabled Fort Knox, atop nearly $200 billion in American gold. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., posted a Facebook photo of himself, holding a pair of eclipse glasses, and Mnuchin at the U.S. Bullion Repository, where he said “we viewed the #solareclipse from the rooftop today.”
