“Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. was among 108 ski areas from across the U.S. that joined with 40 other businesses May 29 in signing the Climate Declaration, which calls upon federal policymakers to address climate change, according to a news release.”
“Ski areas in the U.S. employ about 160,000 people and generate about $12.2 billion in annual revenue, according to the release. The National Ski Areas Association calculates that visitors to U.S. ski areas spent $5.8 billion at those resorts during the 2011-12 season. Preliminary figures from the 2012-13 season show an 11 percent year-over-year increase in visits to an estimated 56.6 million visits this past season.

Declaration:
Tackling Climate Change is one of America’s greatest economic opportunities of the 21rst century (and it’s simply the right thing to do). What made America great was taking a stand. Doing the things that are hard. And seizing opportunities. The very foundation of our country is based on fighting for our freedoms and ensuring the health and prosperity of our state, our community and our families. Today those things are threatened by a changing climate that most scientists agree is being caused by air pollution. We cannot risk our children’s futures on the false hope that the vast majority of scientists are wrong. But, just as America rose to the great challenges of the past and came out stronger than ever, we have to face this challenge, and we have to win. And in doing this right, by saving money when we use less electricity, by driving a more efficient car, by choosing clean energy, by inventing new technologies that other countries buy, and creating jobs here at home, we will maintain our way of life and remain a true superpower in a competitive world. In order to make this happen, however, there must be a coordinated effort to combat climate change, with America taking the lead here at home. Leading is what we’ve always done. And by working together, regardless of politics, we’ll do it again.

As more businesses become impacted by the changing climate, more of them and the business organizations will be making statemenst like this. The bottom line dictates that they look after their self interest.

But that would be one less industry out of business, ergo less contribution to the changing climate.

Folks drive their vehicles to resorts, resorts resort to energy usage, etc.

I'll think of this OP the next time Steamboat uses fossil fuel powered snow groomers to make their slopes nice for the one percent.

You getting paid to send people to that website? It's to a signup page for some ECO-business model and PR firm..

ROFL, you are aren't you..

still nobody cares.....and in the east, Killington was open just a couple of weeks ago!!!

Go back 20 years ago and Killington was open till the middle of June.

Ski season is shortening because winter snow packs are decreasing in both the eastern and western mountain ranges. Warmer falls, milder temperature winters, warmer springs, longer summers,...on average.

From my own experience, there isn't much of the dry powder snow falls anymore, at least in a lot of the resorts I used to enjoy throughout the '70s and '80s. Most snows now are the heavy, wet, often slushy snows, that aren't really good for skiing, but that is anecdotal and merely a subjective impression.

This is akin to communities declaring themselves "nuclear free zones".

Urbana, IL is one such community.
Well, crap. Now the ballistic missile submarine USS Alabama won't be able to sail up Boneyard Creek for shore leave.
Little did the rubes know that UIUC houses a small-scale reactor for research.

There goes the whole Nuclear Medicine Wing at the teaching hospital...
Leftists don't care about consequences. Intentions are all that count.

Supremes do not take science cases. They are science agnostic. They ruled that the VAGUE crap Congress writes as law these days CAN allow bureaucrats to regulate CO2 as a pollutant if they deem it so. You gonna run to yo momma next??

I know what you EXHALE is air pollution... But not me.. Natural as a deer fart.. It's scientific illiteracy being worshipped by ignorant zealots.
