OZARK, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokesman says dead drum fish now cover a 20-mile section of the Arkansas River near Ozark.

Seven teams from the state agency visited the affected portion of the river Friday. Commission spokesman Keith Stephens says an official estimate of how many fish have died is expected on Monday, but he tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the number is likely in the hundreds of thousands.

The commission determined the fish died in the river from a dam near Ozark to a bridge along State Highway 109 near Clarksville.

Stephens says some of the live drum fish were sick and will be sent to a lab at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff for testing.

Drum fish are bottom feeders that eat other fish and insects.

More Than 1,000 Dead Birds Fall From Sky In Ark. (Arkansas)
AP via Yahoo News ^ | 2 Jan 2011 | AP

BEEBE, Ark. – Wildlife officials are trying to determine what caused more than 1,000 blackbirds to die and fall from the sky over an Arkansas town.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said Saturday that it began receiving reports about the dead birds about 11:30 p.m. the previous night. The birds fell over a 1-mile area of Beebe, and an aerial survey indicated that no other dead birds were found outside of that area.

Gee, I wonder if they have that dreaded EPA there in China. I guess not.

Maybe they should keep government out of it?

Arkansas game officials probe mystery of falling birds (5,000) update.
CNN ^ | Jan 2nd, 2011

CNN) -- Arkansas game officials hope testing scheduled to begin Monday will solve the mystery of why up to 5,000 blackbirds fell from the sky just before midnight New Year's Eve.

The birds -- most of which were dead -- were found within a one-mile area of Beebe, about 40 miles northeast of Little Rock, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said. The blackbirds fell over about a one-mile area, the commission said in a statement.

As of Saturday, between 4,000 and 5,000 blackbirds had been found dead, said Keith Stephens with the commission.

"Shortly after I arrived, there were still birds falling from the sky," said commission wildlife officer Robby King in the statement. He said he collected about 65 dead birds

Looks like the corexit got into the food chain. Fish and birds eating bugs eating plants covered with toxic rain. Gee, you think one environmentalist would figure out that the GATT treaty removed EPA jurisdiction over international corporate business. You think one attorney filing lawsuits would state this fact. You've think somebody would connect the dots since transoceanic failed to appear on subpoena. But noooooooooooo, Americans are too afraid to notice treason.

500 More Red-Wing Blackbirds Found Dead in Louisiana
AOL News ^ | January 4, 2011 | David Knowles

This is getting weird.

Four days after an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 red-winged blackbirds fell from the sky in Beebe, Ark., about 500 more dead birds were found lying lifeless on a quarter-mile-long stretch of highway in Pointe Coupee Parish in Louisiana.

The birds, red-winged blackbirds and starlings, were discovered on Monday, Baton Rouge's The Advocate reported. Biologists will send some of the birds to labs in Georgia and Wisconsin to conduct necropsies and tests to determine the cause of death.

After examining the birds found in Arkansas, state officials concluded that they had died as a result of blunt trauma, possibly caused by flying into buildings after being startled by New Year's fireworks.

A day before the Arkansas bird deaths were reported, 100,000 drum fish were found dead in a massive fishkill in the Arkansas River. That die-off is still being investigated but was likely caused by a combination of factors including a population boom over the summer, a deadly pathogen and a harsh winter cold snap.
