Sony to lay off 10,000 employees - Crave - CNET Asia

At a press briefing, Sony's new CEO Kazuo Hirai announced that 10,000 employees will be laid off in this fiscal year. This number makes up about six percent of its global workforce. This is part of the company's restructuring efforts, an initiative it has dubbed "One Sony", to bring the electronics giant back to profitability. This comes in the wake of Sony's earlier announcement that it expects to post a loss of 520 billion yen (US$6.4 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012.

    Ouch!
