Philadelphia, Amazing huh...
Lets try this again without the RWA vs OCA/Newguy war ok.

All Freedom of Speech gurantees you is that your government won't oppress you for saying what you like. So every protestor has the right to say "America is Evil" or "Bush is Hitler" or they can Burn the American Flag. Freedom of speech works both ways however. If another group of citizens are offended by what those citizens have to say, they have the freedom to tell them to "Get the Fuck out of the country."

Some ignorant people like said protestors, Hollywood pundents, or idiotic music groups like the Dixies Chicks fail to see this. They think Freedom of Speech is a one way straight for them to say whatever they want without any reprecutions. They fail to recognize that if other citizens of this country don't like what your saying, they can express there freedom to not buy your album or go see your movie, or to get in your face at a protest and tell you to get the fuck out of the country. Thats expressing our Freedom of speech as well.

So the next time some liberal moron tells you that you can't infringe on their free speech by telling them to get out of the country, inform them of YOUR free speech rights as well.

I agree wholeheartedly with you, but let me change this a bit before some of the anti-usa folks start whining.

Generally, after someone gets done complaining about how much the USA sucks, I will reply "If you don't like it here, why the hell don't you just get the fuck out of the country"

There's just a bit of a difference. I'm not telling them they have to leave but rather why don't they if they hate it here so much. It's like all the celebrity retards that vowed to leave the country in 2000 if Bush won the election.

Eddie Vedder
Alec Baldwin
Barbara Streisand
Robert Altman
Pierre Salinger
Lynn Redgrave
Cher

Salinger is apparently the only one who followed through with his promise. The others are just typical clueless whiners.

So, yes, they have the right to speak out against our country and government - and I have the right to tell them they should leave if they think it's better elsewhere. And if they do I will be the first to say good riddance.

why they vowed to leave the country is beyond me, that above all, makes them most un-american.

the freedom to protest against government policies is sacred. Its a right we didn't posess 300 years ago, and while some of you may consider protesting against war, economic policy, foreign policy, gun control, abortion, or any other number of issues 'un-american' its precisely that right and the exercise thereof that is most decidedly american.

Like I said in the first thread, its Ironic, almost ridiculous, to tell someone to get out of the country when they are exercising one of the most americanized rights they have.

That's why I clarified the statement. I'm not saying they HAVE to leave but rather they SHOULD leave if they hate it here so much. They offered their opinion and I offered mine. Freedom of speech does work both ways, doesn't it? :)

it does, and it wasn't directed at anyone specific ;)

DK, I agree wholeheartedly. That's why I am so dead-set AGAINST campaign finance "reform," which is really a thinly veiled attempt at regulating political speech.

While CFR was a good idea, it doesn't eliminate the problem. Power in politics is bought by money when Power shouldn't be bought at all.

Money in politics allows a candidate to buy things like advertisements, pollsters, phone banks, etc.... ultimately leading to name recognition, and then issue stands and the differences between you and the other guy running. That's why money is so important to politics. It is impossible to get money out of politics because nobody is going to be able to run a campaign without money - unless everyone involved is wealthy enough to volunteer months of their time.

Freedom of speech is so misunderstood in this country it is rather comical at this point. Can't say the n word but you can say wop. Can't yell fire in a movie theatre. Can't tell someone that you're going to slit their throat. But you can bring suit against people without merit or show porn videos without their permission. You can burn the flag but not require a pledge to it.

The fact remains that speech is not free and without restrictions.

They said they'd leave if George W. Bush won the election, he lost, but the Supreme Court picked him to be President.

As for Free Speech, I define it this way: I have the right to say and/or write anything I want so long as is not slanderous, libelous, or a direct incitement to commit crimes or cause panic. This means you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theatre, you can't encourage people to go out commit murder, and you can't say or publish lies specifically designed to hurt someone's reputation. Other than that, anything goes.

What an idiot. You're probably one of those fucktards that swore you would leave and now must come up with lame excuses because you don't have the cajones to follow through on your word. Bush won, get over it, loser.

That's right, so don't whine like my bitch when I tell you "if you don't like it here why don't you move your sorry ass out of the country where you'll be happier, as will we".

Not true. You can't call a black person a n... In certain states you cannot list the address of sex offenders. There are all kinds of ways that speech is not free.

I won't whine, Jim, go right ahead and exercise your free speech rights, but don't bitch when I exercise my right to ignore your

That's fine, but I'll still expose you for your idiotic statements at every opportunity, which is almost daily. You're just another college puke that thinks he knows everything when in reality you're still popping zits off your face.

You have listed some of the greatest people America has to offer. Lets see, Alec Baldwin - where would America be with his ability to play make believe and get paid millions for it? Most of his films are forgettable anyway....BS...which is just about everything that comes out of her mouth....Lynn Redgrave, I think she is English so who cares and her career has been caput for decades....Cher...her ex would turn in his grave...I have no idea who the others are.

Basically the point was to counter the "I have a right to say what i want whenever i want" Crowd when they cry foul over being told to leave after they say something hateful towards the presidnet or against America.

I see.
I have to agree, if you are going to question your President in a public (especially if you are a celebrity) you better be ready for the backlash from his supporters.

I think telling anyone to get the fuck out of the country is a bit overboard. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever said that to anyone. That's the INS's job
