They talk about Covid etc .

I was so irritated that I did not show up to meet them earlier today!!

Now I am invited for dinner in only 2 hours

CIvil conversation starts with agreement. You should find some things on which you can agree. If it MUST be political-related, why not mention that our country has benefited for generations from LEGAL immigration. Talk about sports, recreation, entertainment (movies, television, books), health-related subjects like forms of exercise, electric vehicles vs ICE, nuclear power, favorite holiday food. Memories of deceased relatives.

Be creative.

Ask them how many lives in their house.... then ask them how much they have donated to charities for illegals... then ask them how many hours they have volunteered at one of the illegals shelters.

Then explain to them in a way they will understand the problems with excess diversity for diversity's sake. Then explain to them the problems of no border and unknown people just moving in at their expense from anywhere. Show them why these things are wrong and don't work by example.

Hit them with diversity since they are so proud of it by exposing their intolerance of diverse ideas such as Trump and MAGA. Where is their diversity now?

Then show them the problem with open borders by telling them you and three friends of yours from parts unknown will all be moving into their house--- at their expense.
