As the IMF gets set to give several $Billions to Greece and possibly other European Nations,it does bring up a very important question for Americans. Since a big percentage of IMF money is American Tax Payer money, this means that Americans will now be paying to bail Europe out as well. This doesn't even include what the Federal Reserve is possibly giving Europe. We don't know how much our Federal Reserve is giving Europe because of their tight secrecy. So after bailing out countless Corporations here in the U.S.,should we be bailing Europe out too?
Yes. There are 174 member nations in the IMF. Funds come from members based on GDP size and interest from loans. The US being the largest, pays the most. Currently, I think we pay 54 billion which is 18% of the total collected. During a financial crisis, contributions can easily double. Most of the money goes to fund a reserve from which loans are made, so it varies each year. The IMF is also sitting on the third largest supply of gold in the world, abut 3000 metric tons. So it has huge assets. As the IMF gets set to give several $Billions to Greece and possibly other European Nations,it does bring up a very important question for Americans. I know you're being sarcastic, which is too bad, cause you're right. We do need to revert back to traditional American Isolationism in many regards. Particularly defensive treaties.Yet one more reason to adopt a strict Isolationist foreign policy.

The amount all depends on amount of loan activity of the IMF. The percent should stay close to 18% since it is based on the size of the economies of member nations. The number of votes a nation gets is based on the amount they pay into the IMF. 25% for the US would mean the US, British, Germany, and Japan, who often vote together would be able to control the IMF. That would sure ruffle some feathers. As the IMF gets set to give several $Billions to Greece and possibly other European Nations,it does bring up a very important question for Americans. My research put the American Tax Payer IMF percentage at 25%. Some say higher and some say lower.
