Saudi Clerics Point Militants Toward Iraq

By SCHEHEREZADE FARAMARZI, Associated Press Writer

LONDON - Fundamentalist Islamic leaders in Saudi Arabia are telling militants intent on fighting "infidels" to join the insurgency in Iraq (news - web sites) instead of taking up Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s call to oust the Saudi royal family at home, say Saudi dissidents who monitor theological edicts coming out of the kingdom.

Iraq as a battleground offers the solution to a quandary facing the Saudi clerics who have to both placate the kingdom's rulers and keep their radical base happy.

The Saudi sponsored Wahhabi cult of 7th century barbarism and death is a Religion of Murder.

It should come as no surprise that the liberation of Iraq is opposed by its neighbors. Saudi royalty, dictators and islamic clerics alike fear the establishment of democracy in Iraq because they see the writing on the wall. If democracy is allowed to gain a foothold in Iraq, can unrest and revolution in Iran be far behind? What about Saudi citizens who see the priveliged monarchy skimming the profits from their oil sales to build ever more elaborate palaces? What about those dictators whose plush lifestyles hardly reflect islamic teaching? And how long can muslim clerics maintain their hold on arab societies where citizens are allowed to think for themselves and to question the tenets of sharia law, or even of islam itself?

Nope, as I see it, there's a long hard row to hoe ahead for the fledgling Iraqi republic. There is opposition on every corner and it remains to be seen if the Iraqi people have either the will or the means to wrest freedom and democracy from those who would continue to enslave and abuse them.

The Saudis and the French have always been pretend allies--getting out of their "relationship" with America what America was willing to give without their having to give anything to America in return.

But back to the topic of the post--It's really no surprise that Saudi Arabia would "point" the terrorists toward Iraq instead of having to deal with them at home. Sounds like pretty good strategy to me and what could be expected, considering the source.

Not to mention that it underscores the flypaper effect is still in place and working.
