That's because he's just another phony wingnut, fooling the ignorant masses on the Right.Because he's an individual, and the Catholic Church encourages individuals to form opinions of their own. We're not like the Democrats. We think independently.
Twit.
For all his wearing of his religion on his sweater vest, he sure does not tithe like one. He gave a WHOPPING 2.4% of his million dollar income to charity. It should be more like 10%.
"Cafeteria Catholicism" is a pejorative term applied to Catholics who dissent from Roman Catholic doctrinal or moral teaching. Some examples would be Catholics who dissent from Church teaching in regards to abortion, birth control, divorce, premarital sex, masturbation, or the moral status of homosexuality.I just tuned in to see what a Cafateria Catholic was. Ha, now I see! I think he is more of a Buffet Bigot.
So, Santorum (Google it!) is a staunch defender and follower of the Catholic Church, is he? Then why does he go against the church's position on capital punishment?
Protestants are somewhat more likely to endorse capital punishment than are Catholics and far more likely than those with no religious preference. More than 7 in 10 Protestants (71%) support the death penalty, while 66% of Catholics support it. Fifty-seven percent of those with no religious preference favor the death penalty for murder.

We're not discussing the Catholic population at large. We are discussing Rick Santorum, who insists on using his Catholicism as an issue in the campaign, unlike Romney, who has yet to tout positions based on his Mormonism. So, Santorum (Google it!) is a staunch defender and follower of the Catholic Church, is he? Then why does he go against the church's position on capital punishment?
Same reason most Catholics do. Because they don't see a good reason to keep baby-murderers alive.

Now, if you want to be totally fair and point out that 75% of Catholics oppose the Church's position on Birth control, you should also- in the interest of fairness - point out that most of them disagree with the Church's position on Capital Punishment.
They aren't making an issue out of their religious beliefs, like Santorum, are they?Bullshit! Individuality stops at the intersection of church teachings.
The Catholic Church does not let you pick and choose which of their tenets you wish to follow, i.e. Cafeteria Catholicism.
Tell that to Nancy PEElosi, and all the rest of the pro abortion 'catholics' on capital hill.

One cannot be a Catholic Congress critter and support abortion.

There are fundamental doctrines that one does need to believe to call oneself a Catholic. Most of the bullshit that y'all are getting butthurt about do not qualify.
But, hey, don't let ignorance get in your way. You rant and lie and bullshit from now til doomsday.... won't make what you say true. But the truth was sacrificed long ago in US politics.

And that's fine - the issue isn't who is a good Catholic and who isn't. The issue is a candidate who is running on issues based on their religious views. They aren't making an issue out of their religious beliefs, like Santorum, are they?

so that kinda puts them in line at the Cafeteria too....

Like Santorum is doing, with contraceptives.
