The GOP isn't happy about the comments Rick Perry said yesterday at a private fundraiser, especially Karl Rove. Now the GOP is saying Perry went to far with his comments saying that if Obama and Chairman Ben Bernake with the Federal Reserve started printing more money during this debt crisis between now and the election, that it would be basically a treasonist act. Could this harm Perry before his campaign gets going as Karl Rove is saying?

Perry warns of Fed treason, challenges Obama - The Washington Post

Texas Gov. Rick Perry's (R) suggestion Monday in Iowa that it would be "treasonous" for the Federal Reserve to engage in more quantitative easing turned heads and raised questions about the limits to Perry's folksiness on the campaign trail.

Perry suggested yesterday on the campaign trail that Ben Bernanke, the Fed chairman, would find himself in a "pretty ugly" situation in Texas if he were to authorize another round of quantitative easing, a method of pumping more money into the economy by essentially creating more money.

“If this guy prints more money between now and the election,” Perry said at a campaign function in Iowa. “I don’t know what y’all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas."

The comment quickly made waves overnight, particularly for invoking the concept of treason in response to an economic maneuver.

"Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous— or treasonous in my opinion," Perry said.

Karl Rove Slams Perry For Fed 'Treason' Comments

Rick Perry on Ben Bernanke: Calls quantitative easing akin to treason

Rick Perry's "treason" comments are drawing sharp criticism from a wide range of political observers and talking heads, among them Karl Rove.

"You don't accuse the chairman of the Federal Reserve of being a traitor to his country. Of being guilty of treason," Rove, who has clashed with Perry before, told Fox News (via TPM). "And, suggesting that we treat him pretty ugly in Texas — You know, that is not, again a presidential statement."

Rove continued: "If Rick Perry were to be elected president he'd be saddled with Ben Bernanke who has a term. He's an independent chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, appointed by president and confirmed by Congress and serves for a term and the president couldn't even ask him to resign. So, this is — I hope this is not the first of sort of over the top statements."

Politico has a roundup of reactions from some other prominent George W. Bush allies, none of whom had nice things to say about Perry's comments.

So he decided to put his ass on the line and run with one of Ron Paul's more "extreme" positions and now he's getting shit for it

This just goes to show, watch yourself closely when stealing Paul's positions because some of them are off limits within the establishment, no matter how popular they may be with voters.

And now your GOP elites are turining on him less than 72 hours from his announcement for the presidency with those comments. Not good.

GOOD! I love watching them destroy their campaigns along the way because they don't know what they're supposed to say next.

Meanwhile, my guy sits back, maintains his message while the money continues to flow in, and looks better and better each day.
