Donald Trump has thrown Seoul, the Pentagon, and Capitol Hill Republicans into a tailspin over his seat-of-the-pants announcement that the U.S. would suspend joint military exercises, which he called “war games,” with South Korea. The AP writes:

President Donald Trump’s abrupt announcement Tuesday that he will suspend U.S. military drills in South Korea appeared to catch the Pentagon and the Seoul government flat-footed, and it contradicted a pillar of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’s campaign to make U.S. troops more combat-ready.

Two Senators = "republicans in disarray"?

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Of course we have to suspend those drills. We are trying to denuclearize NK. Antagonizing the people across the table is a great way to sink a negotiation. Trump was wise to make this decision.

The article does not live up to the hyperbolic title of the article...kind of sad for you.

Beyond belief that the President would not have discussed this with the Pentagon and South Korea, but I am not surprised.

I have faith that should N Korea attempt a military take over of S. Korea our boys can handle it.

Prior to the 70's, we were in South Korea to protect it from the North. After the 70's, we have been there to keep them from attacking the north.

I'd be alright with that too, I think the S Korean's would take a fuck ton better care of the N. Korean citizens.

Regardless, the loss of war games is not a "game changer" in the ultimate outcome of any N. Korean hostilities toward S. Korea...

Yep, and the sycophants trying to make this a better deal than the Iran nuclear deal is vomit worthy.

Lets review shall we...

ISTANBUL — One was the result of 12 years of painstaking negotiations over two U.S. presidential administrations and three changes of government on the other side, with the U.N. Security Council, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and leaders from the capitals of half a dozen countries actively involved.

The other was hammered out by two beefy guys with bad hair during the equivalent of a long layover in Singapore.

It may be unfair to compare the 159-page Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the Iran nuclear deal, signed by Tehran and world powers in 2015, to the barely two-page Singapore declaration penned by Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, which is supposed to kick off the process of a deal.

But the Singapore statement, which has been praised by Trump supporters and conservative pundits on cable television, also pales dramatically in comparison to the interim deal that Iran, the U.S. and other world powers signed in 2013.

The Art of the Deal? Obama’s With Iran Was Much Better Than Trump’s With North Korea

Christ....that is stupid

The President and Un kept making additional offers after the joint statement was finished. Trump smiled about it at the news conference...it's how he sweetens deals...get more while everybody is happy. And that's why you never do deals when you're happy, horny, or hungry with a slick operator like him. Trading joint drills with the SKs in exchange for Un closing his missile engine works is about as good as it gets. Everybody already knows the unit concepts of invading the north so we lose nothing but the bill for exercises we don't need now.

Un is playing Trump like a fiddle. Every expert on the planet has already stated that a nuclear program of that size will take 10 years to dismantle, and that's only if there is an honest effort to do it. There is no way possible to verify it.

Then lets look at it politically. If the deal falls through, there is no way to spin it other that Trump failed. Full stop.

Then look at it strategically. If Un backs out, or renegs, we go to war with North Korea?

And given the time frame here, Trump won't be around in 10 years, so just like Iraq and Afghanistan, another administration ends up having to deal with another " mission accomplished " asshole to the tune of another $7 trillion and how many American lives?

And then finally we look at it personally. So what, you're making the statement " Donald Trump, master foreign policy negotiator "?

Forgive me if I don't share in the delusion.

And this isn’t a situation where Trump’s ignorance and stupidity can be clumsily walked-back like countless times before.
