The U.S. Senate took the first step toward repealing Obamacare in a razor-thin vote early Thursday, even as House leaders were struggling to line up support for a vote later this week.

The 51-48 vote fell almost entirely along party lines, an early sign of the contentiousness surrounding Republican plans to undo President Barack Obama’s signature health-care law.

Senate Republicans held together to defeat Democratic amendments aimed at defending popular portions of the Affordable Care Act, including expanded Medicaid and Medicare drug benefits and allowing kids to stay on their parents’ insurance until 26.

Obamacare Repeal Effort Clears First Big Hurdle in U.S. Senate

The far left does not understand that those things can be included in the replacement for Obamacare!

To the far left it is Obamacare or nothing!

President-elect Trump has stated publicly that the popular parts of ACA must be protected and included in the new program.

Notice little talk exists about the ACA being returned to the private market.

The libertarians, pseudo-anarchists, and small government and corporatists will be unhappy with the end product, apparently.

The GOP will frame their repeal legislation, and it will clear both houses narrowly (unless Schumer filibusters it), go to committee, come out of reconciliation, pass on both floors narrowly (unless Schumer filibusters it again), and then will end up on the desk of Donald Trump who will be forced to veto it.

Otherwise he won't be re-elected in 2020.

ACA will not change. Ever.

They were busy at it late last night. Also turns out that buried in their rules is a specific clause to disallow the CBO from making public their analysis that ACA repeal will add a couple hundred billion to the deficit. Glad we don't have to worry about spending now, but just to be sure, lets keep it a secret.

Today should be a good day as we bask in the light of progress by dumping this liberal wet dream called Obamacare.

Hopefully you were never one who went on about the deficit and/or debt.

By cutting other wasteful programs we can re-allocate existing budgets to help.

We may have to pay additional cost to rid us of other Obama social cancers

We await the results of carte blanche conservative Republican governance.

When they fail, it will be because they were liberals.

So you're another idiot that thinks popular means good. Forcing one group of people to fund subsidies for freeloaders isn't good. It might be popular to the freeloaders but that's because they're freeloaders unwilling to do for themselves.

You don't know of what you discuss. You simply have not a clue about insurance and how it works. You have no allegiance to our country, which depends on a healthy and vitally stable citizenry. Does not matter. You will not get your way.

I have an allegiance to my family. I expect others to do the same for their families. That's what produces a stable citizenry. Forcing one group to provide to another isn't stable.

I guess as long as there are people like me forced to fund things, you'll have something. At least acknowledge those of us providing it for you.

I understand how insurance works pre and post Obamacare. Pre Obamacare, I had a choice whether or not to have it without penalty, punishment, etc. Post Obamacare, that choice no longer exists. That's the difference NL.
