The parties were once divided along geographic and racial lines and had both liberals and conservatives, it was better in some ways and worse.

Today, the GOP has made anything that favors the working man or woman, something to make war on. They wish to go back to the time when a company could bring in the Pinkerton's to beat up on and kill workers that were striking for a just wage.

Not that I recall - the anti-hippie hard hats saw the light when the air traffic controllers got fired.
