Gun crime is more prevalent in the US than in other rich countries

And that stat doesn't matter......do their criminals pull the triggers on their guns? That is the difference.

Gun control laws don't eliminate all gun crime. No one ever claimed it does. But gun crime in every jurisdiction where guns are strictly controlled is substantially lower than in the US.

Canada has basically banned handguns for those without good reason to carry a gun. It doesn't eliminate gun violence but it does keep "good guys with guns" from getting shot because the only good guys with guns are cops.

Hunting is still a much loved sport in Canada and our gun laws respect that, but all large magazine automatic weapons are banned, along with handguns.

Nothing will ever totally eliminate gun violence, but the level of gun violence, from armed robbery to suicide and tragic accidental shootings is substantially reduced.

In 2004, the National Academy of Sciences reviewed 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications and some empirical research of its own about guns. The Academy could not identify any gun restriction that had reduced violent crime, suicide or gun accidents.

Why don't gun bans work? Because they rely on voluntary compliance by gun-using criminals. Prohibitionists never see this absurdity because they deceive themselves into thinking that, as Katherine Christoffel has said: "[M]ost shootings are not committed by felons or mentally ill people, but are acts of passion that are committed using a handgun that is owned for home protection."
