Obama said that all pre-existing conditions would be covered immediately under the new health care bill that was signed today. That was one of his main sales pitches for this bill.

Surprise, surprise, this is not true, especially for the citizens that need it the most, CHILDREN. Children with pre-existing conditions will not automatically be accepted by insurance companies, and this bill doesn't change that UNTIL 2014.

Hi Rick.

My understanding is that the pre-existing condition section goes into effect immediately.

Please indicate which section you're referring to so I can check. Because I don't believe your article is characterizing it correctly.

Hi jillian,

I'll have to take the time to read that section of the bill and get back to you. Sorry I can't do it right now, because I'm at work.

sorry to burst your bubble dreams but Obama doesn't even understand or know what's in the bill he just fucking signed.

Lame beyond belief.

Hi jillian,

I'll have to take the time to read that section of the bill and get back to you. Sorry I can't do it right now, but I'm at work.

Rick

Thanks for responding, Rick. Will look forward to it. Would check myself but I'm at work too. And I always prefer reading an actual statute than relying on some blogger or newspaper editorial or whatever... telling me what it says.

Actually, genius, the ARTICLE from the rightwing paper is contradictory... it says:

However, if a child is accepted for coverage, or is already covered, the insurer cannot exclude payment for treating a particular illness, as sometimes happens now. For example, if a child has asthma, the insurance company cannot write a policy that excludes that condition from coverage. The new safeguard will be in place later this year.

you'll forgive me, braintrust, if i wouldn't trust a rightwing newspaper's DESCRIPTION of what was said or what the bill says. It helps to educate yourself by reading actual sources.

I'm kind of funny that way. I don't even look at the headnotes of decisions when I write briefs at work because headnotes aren't always correct.

But thanks for playing.

Well, now that he has signed it, he can find out what's in it.

Based upon his own propaganda, 160,000 will needlessly die because of the delay in coverage to 2014.

Oh.Teh.Humanity

you guys did "here" dingleberry say it was gonna take a long time to write the rules to bring the people under control didn'y ya?

Of course if the Party of No had its way, there would be no HC reform, No Social Security, no Medicaid, and no Medicare.

And all those little blue hair women in the tea bagger movement would be out working until they are 80 years old...or die. THAT IS THE REPUBLICAN WAY!

In other words, you didn't take the time to actually research what the Republican party proposed, you just took Obama and the media's word for it that they didn't offer anything. Well, that's just not true, but I'm sure you don't want to listen to the truth, you just want to blindly believe what the Democrats want you to believe. Wake up and actually know what you're talking about before you talk, when you don't you just look stupid.

I will attempt to find out what the bill actually says, but if you get the opportunity to look at it before I do, please let me know the section that deals with this so that I can find it a little easier. I don't relish reading through that whole thing looking for this information. But, I will attempt it, if nothing more than to educate myself as to what is and is not in this bill.

Yes, and we would all be better off for it. Personal responsibility would have taken over and people would have actually saved for retirement, health care insurance etc. and we would not be facing the crushing debt that we are under now and bankrupting future generations.

I hate to burst your Obama bubble here, but it's all over the news, kids with pre-existing conditions will not be covered TODAY, they will be in 2014.:lol::lol: Just wait until the value added tax he will present next April, that should reallllllllllllllllllllly tickle your fancy when you pay $11.00 per gallon of gasoline to finance your new entitlement program.:lol:

It's called a VALUE ADDED TAX and all his socialistic buddies in Europe have to do it to finance their healthcare.

hhhhmmmmmmmmm I just heard Ann Compton on the radio reporting that children were not covered and that they had to re group and write some hasty legislation to correct the faux paux... get a memo to them Jill, so they can save themselves the work.

Bush signed the TARP, dear.

Actually that was in the 787 billion dollar no- stimulus, stimulus bill - remember snuck in by Chris Dodd, signed before anyone had a chance to read it. No Bush did not sign that, Obama sure did before he even read it. It appears that the longer this bill is out there and people are reviewing it, the more foolish he will look again, because the democrat held congress, senate and administration are major f--k-ups.:lol:

And another article from the AP on those pre-existing conditions for children, hardly a right wing media.:lol:

The Associated Press: Gap in health care law's protection for children

WASHINGTON — Hours after President Barack Obama signed historic health care legislation, a potential problem emerged. Administration officials are now scrambling to fix a gap in highly touted benefits for children.

Obama made better coverage for children a centerpiece of his health care remake, but it turns out the letter of the law provided a less-than-complete guarantee that kids with health problems would not be shut out of coverage.

Under the new law, insurance companies still would be able to refuse new coverage to children because of a pre-existing medical problem, said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the main congressional panels that wrote the bill Obama signed into law Tuesday.

However, if a child is accepted for coverage, or is already covered, the insurer cannot exclude payment for treating a particular illness, as sometimes happens now. For example, if a child has asthma, the insurance company cannot write a policy that excludes that condition from coverage. The new safeguard will be in place later this year.

Full protection for children would not come until 2014, said Kate Cyrul, a spokeswoman for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, another panel that authored the legislation. That's the same year when insurance companies could no longer deny coverage to any person on account of health problems.
