The UK show made the racist look stupid as you would expect. That was the point of it.Not familiar with the US show.

The UK show made the racist look stupid as you would expect. That was the point of it.Not familiar with the US show.

Not sure if UK sitcoms follow the same cliche, but it's pretty common here. The father is a bumbling idiot no matter whether he is racist or not. It has been pretty played out for decades in American sitcoms. Of course his racism was used as a vehicle for making him look like a jackass at times...
