Well the same thing could be said of Putin and his grip on Russia

legally the Russian president can only be president for 2 consecutive terms

Putin did his first stint and stepped done and becoming prime minister which whom is appointed by the president. At the next election cycle he is reelected and starts again for another 2 consecutive terms. At this rate he can continue to do this. I guess the only thing that will stop him will be his age.

The last election the only serious challenger who had a shot was this guy Alexei but the supreme court upheld a ban that prohibit him from running for president.

So when they put in that 2 consecutive terms does that mean that the writers didn't want someone to stick around forever and felt the need to limit this.

Still he has been in power for at least 18 years.

I can see why trump likes this guy because Trump would probably love to change some laws about a 2 term president
