Penn State concealed sex abuse to save reputation- report - chicagotribune.com

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Penn State leaders including former President Graham Spanier and late football coach Joe Paterno covered up Jerry Sandusky's child sexual abuse for years to save the reputation of the school and its multimillon-dollar football program, former FBI director Louis Freeh said on Thursday.

Their failure to stop Sandusky allowed the former assistant coach to continue luring victims for more than a decade, Freeh said after an eight-month investigation of the handling of the case commissioned by Pennsylvania State University trustees.

Sandusky, 68, was convicted last month of sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years.

"Our most saddening and sobering finding is the total disregard for the safety and welfare of Sandusky's child victims by the most senior leaders at Penn State," Freeh said in a statement on his team's findings.

"In order to avoid the consequences of bad publicity, the most powerful leaders at Penn State University ... repeatedly concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky's child abuse."

Nauseating.

Seems like catholics whether in sports or in religion have a propensity to hide facts about child abuse within their walls . being democats makes it even less palatable

OOOHHH Good one!

While they aren't a Catholic University, like most Universities it is a LIBERAL University. After all, when Sandusky was first arrested who was it in the streets violently protesting? Ah yes, the liberal STUDENTS! Right up to the point where someone sat them down and said "Uh, you're protesting for a child rapist and the man who helped cover it up."

Unbelievable.
Not that it makes up for the tragedies...but Holy Cow are there going to be law suits!
What is yet to be determined is what penalty the NCAA will place on their entire athletic organization.
This could crush the Penn State football program for years to come.

Exactly what I was thinking.

With pending lawsuits and all it looks like the football program is finished even if Penn State can survive. I wonder how far the local police went covering up Sandusky's crimes.

You'd think people would have learned by now.......Grown men perpetrating homosexual acts on a child is a crime that should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law...

Enablers should also receive similar punishments for allowing crap like this to happen.....There's just no excuse for this kind of behavior..

Wow, you're pretty trashy.

I don't think the students were the ones that covered up the abuse, but don't let that intrude on your favorite pastime of posting as if you were mentally retarded.

The students didn't cover up the abuse, but they were sure out there demonstrating in support of the abusers.

And these people were married and had kids of thier own, did they let Sandusky take them also?
Notice non were homosexuals.
