Lombardi loved Hornung for his versatile skill set and clutch play as the featured left halfback in the Packers’ offense, as well as for his fun-loving off-field persona that helped get Hornung the nickname “Golden Boy.”

Could we have nominations for "The Greatest White Guy" who played a "skill" position?

Of course, you would have to evaluate players according to the competition in his era.

I vote for Paul Hornung.

My nominee is Larry Csonka if strictly looking at running backs.

Horning was a great player but Jim Brown should have won the Heisman. Horning was Golden Boy while Brown was black. For some reason I remember Alex Karras more than Horning for being suspended a season by the NFL for gambling on games. Likely because what else is there to remember about the Lions?
