'What they are told', what does that mean on practice? That the government should issue a guidance for teachers what they are and aren't allowed to say in the classroom?

I don't know what the curriculum looked like when you was in school. But what I remember is that the history course was divided on certain 'blocs'. For example, 'Europe in the Ancient times', 'Amercian Civil War', 'WWII in Europe' etc. Every bloc was divided on certain themes.

And a teacher must follow this course. But it is basically censorship to punish them for mentioning the things which can be deemed as CRT while teaching about say American civil rights movement.

There are ways to teach the history of class oppression and social evolution without either blaming groups by race or by denying race has been a factor.

The African slaves can still be taught as being the historical targets of genocide, but that doesn't mean the oppressors caused the economic disparity "because they were white."

The cause was having greater leverage and ability to buy out and monopolize colonial development, regardless of race.

The class privilege drove the outreach to expand into Native American and other lands. With the slave trade, the ratio of Black owners to White owners in the slave trade business reflected the same ratio of Blacks to Whites in the populations of the South. The victims were targeted due to skin color, as darker Black slaves were valued higher on the market than lighter or Mulatto slaves. But the business people profiting off the slave trade were not just white, the division between owners and slave workers was based on CLASS.

But this isn't caused by the genetic white/caucasian race.

The culture of individual rights to assert power, influence and ownership over others isn't defined by skin color.

We would have to agree how to teach cultural history and differences, without blaming race as the cause.

We could agree the purpose of studying and teaching from history is to overcome class disparity and oppression, and to move toward equal justice. These class divisions occur in every culture, whether Asian or Latino, Black or White. There are more universal ways to cover human history rather than fighting to blame one race more than others all experiencing similar stages of development and evolution.
