It's called "arrested development" and I completely agree, Ringel.

The sad thing is that if you are 19 year old asshole, there is hope for you. But if you are a 49 year old asshole, not so much.

I'll have to look for it later but physiologists have shown conclusively the vast majority of people in this country stop emotionally maturing between (if I remember correctly) the ages of 17 and 23.

The brain stops growing at that point; younger people still have developing frontal lobes, etc. But if your world view was frozen in place at 17, you are an asshole at 49.

In fact, if it freezes in place at 49, you'll be an asshole at 69. Adults who do not experience intellectual and emotional growth are just pre-dead waiting to for the rest of themselves to lie down and die.
