This stuff is nice and all but still overwhelmingly fringe.

Progressives always get giddy about stuff nobody cares about. None of this renewables stuff is mainstream....been hearing about this kind of "huge breakthrough" bs for 10 years in here. :bigbed:

It's all unicorn chasing by people who are perpetually chasing unicorns.

The only people who matter in this are the folks who make energy policy. They don't give a shit about the science. The oligarchs control the $$, thus, control the energy markets.

Only the unicorn chasers have missed all the memos.

Dumb, is spending more money and getting much less for your money.

That is what green energy is. Very little electricity for a huge amount of money.

$100 trillion for green energy.

More than we have spent on anything else in the world.

And after we spend the most money, after we set a world record in spending we will have a weak source for electricity with so much infrastructure we will have destroyed thousands of square miles of farmland, prairie, midwest grassland, pristine desert, and plain old forest.

All for a giant experiment that has thus far completely failed.
Oh yes, failed so bad that 87% of new generation last year was solar and wind. Put in by energy corporations. Because of economics. Damn, you are such a silly ass.

The people that matter are the ones making the decisions as to what kind of generation will make them the most profit. And the fact that 87% of the new generation in 2020 was solar and wind pretty well settles what the people desiring to make a profit generating electricity are thinking.

Wow, new energy production in the first world maybe, but china is building a new coal fired power plant a week.

In 2020, renewable energy sources (including wind, hydroelectric, solar, biomass, and geothermal energy) generated a record 834 billion kilowatthours (kWh) of electricity, or about 21% of all the electricity generated in the United States.Jul 28, 2021

China’s rampant expansion of its renewable energy capacity continued during the first half of 2021 as the country marches towards a goal of carbon neutrality by 2060.

Recent data released by the country’s energy watchdog, the National Energy Administration (NEA), shows the country's renewable energy capacity is growing by leaps and bounds.

In the first half this year, the country raised its renewable energy-fired power generation capacity by 4%, compared with end of last year, to 971 gigawatts.

This figure includes 281GW of onshore wind power, 11.13GW of offshore wind power, 268GW of solar power, 378GW of hydropower and 32.1GW of bio power.

Over the first half of 2021, China's renewable energy generation reached 1.06 trillion kilowatt hours, the NEA said without giving a comparative figure.

"Put in"? Do you mean installed? Built? Manufactured? What was the new generation, "Put in"?

And no, not because of economics, because of government free money given to these big rich corporations, corporations like BP, that is British Petroleum which installs solar in the USA.

And lets not forget you favorite Russian Corporation that the USA is subsidizing in Pueblo Colorado.
