We saw this fail on 9/11, then again with Katrina. This is NOT brain surgery:

20 years or so ago, all the villages, cities in the country had their own seperate 911 systems. Then it was decided by the Chiefs of Police and Fire, that there were a multitude of reasons to have a centralized system. It took about 2 years from proposal to completion. Since then, an overlay of 5 counties have been added, with a special section added-not to public-since 9/11. I know that the 'overlay' has asked the feds at least twice, to help get this set up on a multi-state system. So far, no go. Though there is something with the FBI, the police are not so sure what they get regarding 'info' will be good, as it's not the same 'openess' as the others.

One rogue nuke in space will render us so deaf and blind that I shudder to think about it. Tin cans and real long pieces of sting, anybody?
