Just brainstorming...

I'm wondering if the same compulsion I have to eat is similar to a homosexual's compulsion to have sex with others of the same gender? I suppose I can understand why they feel they are 'born' that way, if so.

However, I think both responses to impulses (eating and homosexual relations) are destructive, and could be cured.

Anyone else see the relation?

Metabolism can be inherited. That would fly in the face of some people's beliefs about homosexuality.

Add to your question any kind of addiction. Drugs, sex (Michael Douglas and Emilio Estevez...mmm..interesting..), porn, etc.

I'm not talking metabolism...I'm talking "compulsion" to eat...Or to do drugs...etc...yeah. It's one's ability to control impulses that may be the key to curing millions of homosexuals who feel 'trapped' and 'defined' by the activities they choose to participate in.

Eating disorders, compulsion for any kind of behaviour.

Hmmm......

There is a drug for treatement of nearly every disorder.

Gaynomore?

One small table in the morning, one at night.....

(here it comes....)

I met this woman, mother of 4, used to be a deputy. She's a cocktail waitress at a club. Not a great looking woman but nice. She had gastro bypass surgery last May (2004). Has lost 180 pounds. She said: The dr. told her that most stomachs are the size of your fist. Obese people's are the size of a 2 liter. Hers is now the size of a peach.
But she told me that she is still in love with food. She barely eats now, but she loves to smell food, likes to serve food, wants to know what others are eating. I think there is more here, than just over-eating.

Any addiction is trying to fill the need for love, comfort, control, etc. with the substance or behavior. However, with homosexuality, there is a little more to it. Gender identity is formed between 18 mo and 3 years of age. If something occurs during this time, like an abusive or absent parent, a "wimpy" dad and an overbearing mother, sexual abuse, or something like that, the child will identify with the opposite gender. Lesbianism is a little more complicated than homosexuality in men (of course! It's women, right?)Here is a link about some books and resources...

Joseph Nicolosi has studied homosexuality for years, and written several books.

From a Christian point of view, though, I think there is something similar between homosexual behavior and compulsive eating. Both are obviously overstepping the bounds that God set in place for normal behavior, trying to fill needs that can only be filled by Him.

In time even after bypass surgery the stomach can stretch out to a normal size and the person can begin the distructive behavior of eating to much.

Eating to much can cause a person with a bypass to get extremely sick, so most choose to follow the diet given to them. This is a choice they make, why couldn't they have made this choice all their lives?????

Maybe for some people it's an addiction...but for most it's just not knowing when to stop eating and get up from the table.

Please don't assume this is an always skinny person talking either. I've had 4 kids and gained 30 pounds with each. I don't like to exercise and I don't have a very strong will when it comes to my favorite desserts. But, I also didn't want to keep the weight on so I chose to eat less and walk off the weight.

Thanks much! good info! :D

Obesity has addiction symptoms in that obese people blame others for their obesity.

Food engineering exists as standard industry practice, and it's purpose is to make food addictive.

The problem with your theory is that homosexuals are not just sexually attracted to the same gender. It is about who they are attracted to in the same way heterosexuals are attracted to the opposite gender. Yes, there is sex. But there is also love. I have some guy friends that I can honestly say I love. But not in any way romantically. I cannot even imagine seeing another man as a romantic interest, much less a sexual one. A gay man cannot imagine a woman as a romantic interest.

Blame the obesity epidemic on CAPITALISM. Greedy merchants continually attempt to create food that is irresistible. Whether it's candy, or chips, or fast food, or snacks, munchies, or what have you. If you pay attention, there is a constant array of new snacks and unhealthy food presented to you in grocery stores, restaurants, convenience stores, and even non-food venues.

And the culture keeps inventing more and more entertaining things to do that involve you just sitting down and doing them with no physical effort (other than your fingers). Facebook, instagram, this website, and so on.

So we, as a society, are consuming more and more calories, and doing less and less to burn them off.

Addiction has nothing to do with it. It is pure self-indulgence. We eat more than we could ever hope to burn off. We eat it because it tastes good, and we are inactive because we are lazy.

eating is a need
''gayness'' is more than just sex--not a need

I liken eating disorders to alcoholism. It can be genetic, it can be a learned behavior from parents, and it can be a developed compulsion. A lot of people deal with stress by eating, and/or drinking.
