"President Obama’s speech really brought home how confused and disoriented liberalism is today, and how very difficult it will be for the Left to accept that the social-democratic welfare state is collapsing and something else must take its place. Yet the very fact that he felt compelled to make such a speech does offer some hope.

As recently as February, in his budget, Obama essentially denied that we had a fiscal crisis. Today, he admitted it and described it, or at least parts of it. It is certainly unorthodox for a president to renounce his own budget two months after proposing it, but that is just what the president did—implicitly dismissing even the goals set out by his budget in its own terms (let alone its potential to achieve them, as measured by the Congressional Budget Office) as totally inadequate. In that sense, the only immediate practical implication of the speech is that it throws the 2012 budget process into disarray. Are the cabinet agencies supposed to be defending the president’s now-repudiated formal budget request before congressional committees in the coming months, or does the administration now expect Congress to ignore its budget? If so, will the administration be offering some particular alternative requests, with details that (unlike this speech) can be scored by CBO?"

    The President

Obama gave a good speech in the sense that he hit a lot of stereotypical lefty talking points that his choir loves to hear. The fact that he blew up his own months old budget proposal is immaterial. Dims know the vast majority of their rank and file won't have a clue he's contradicting himself. They hear the parts they like and that's good enough for them. Others in the party now echo the president, the media sucks along, and all is right in their world.

Blastoff, I agree with everything that you've said except for your statement "all is right in the world." During these trying times having an inexperienced, incompetent, socialistic, anti-American President, is not in the best interests of the USA. All is not well.

I listen to that voice as little as possible - didn't see the speech. What I did see on one of the MSM news was a clip of Joe Biden dozing off during the speech and Obama sounding off about the budget on a still-opened mike - or at least it wasn't known that the mike open.

    Granny,

As expected, you didn't miss a thing.

The POS was in full campaign mode, kissing the arse of his main base, the extreme loons.

Can't wait to see that Monumental Fraud out on his semi-black butt come 2012.

Right you are blastoff. I responded to what I expected to see instead of what was clearly written. There is no excuse for that. Please accept my apology.

You and the rest of the Lib's need a dose of reality. Reality? There is a 100% deficit in this commodity in the liberal party. The tea party has a focused agenda. We support patriotism, truth and transparency in government, and fiscal responsibility. On the other side of the ball the Lib's support communism, and a complete replacement of our republic with a totalitarian socialistic government. I stick with the Tea Party.

Lib's, Obama, is doing a great job. Really?
"Obama borrowed more in the month of February alone ($223 billion) than did the spendthrift George W. Bush during the entire 2007 budgetary year ($163 billion). Obama recently asserted that not authorizing a lofty new national-debt ceiling would be partisan recklessness. He should know. In 2006, then-senator Barack Obama voted not to raise the debt ceiling and railed against out-of-control government spending under the Bush administration. But then, the annual deficit was one-fifth of what it is today. Apparently President Obama lives in an alternative universe from the one Senator Obama used to inhabit.

Gas is heading toward $4 a gallon nationwide — and might reach $5 by Labor Day. The world price for a barrel of oil is well over $100 — and climbing. In response, Obama praised Brazil for developing a vast new offshore oilfield and promised that the United States would readily buy the oil it produces.

Instead of a detailed plan for developing more sources of natural gas, oil, and coal, including tar sands and oil shale, we still hear infantile chants about “wind, solar, and millions of new green jobs.” But solar panels and windmills will not be up to fueling the nation’s 250 million passenger cars and trucks any time soon."

    Obama
